Centreville

Centreville is considered to be one of the best small towns to live in, in the United States. As the county seat of Queen Anne's County it is a hub of activity, with businesses, law offices, shops, and variety of dining establishments. The court house is the oldest in Maryland in continuous use since 1792. A bronze statue of Queen Anne graces the shady front lawn, which is criss-crossed with brick walkways and is the location of the weekly farmers market.

The historic architecture of Centreville is a mix of colonial dwellings with a number of late Victorian homes, along with modern 20th century buildings. One of the oldest homes is the Tucker House, which dates back to 1792, and is a good example of the Federal style. Even older is Wrights Chance, circa 1741, an early plantation house which was moved into town in the 1960's and restored by the Queen Anne's County Historical Society.

The town wharf on the Corsica River is the site of the historic Captain's Houses, which were built by Capt. John H. Ozman, in the late 19th century. The Captain and crew members of Ozman's fleet used these unique homes as their land refuge.

There is an ongoing renniasance along Railroad and Pennsylvannia Avenues. New local businesses are emerging as older buildings are being restored. This style of redevelopment allows for modern use of historic spaces.

Centreville is a functioning walkable town with numerous small businesses fanning out from the crossroads of Commerce and Water Streets. Edwards Pharmacy is local owned and can be counted on for friendly service. Just up the street is La Belle Maison, with its charming collection of home décor in the French Country style made affordable. For fine dining Julia's Café is the place to be. Hayden's Alley Coffee Café serves coffees, lattes, soups, sandwiches, and local baked goods.

Centreville is a lively town, growing into the 21st century. The surrounding areas have experienced moderate growth in recent years, with new housing developments, where folks have come to appreciate all that Queen Anne's County and Centreville have to offer.

Old and new, Centreville provides an easy-going lifestyle with close proximity to major metropolitan areas. Good quality of life and easy commuting make Centreville a great place to call home.
