Church Hill

This little town is nestled amongst farmland and quiet estuaries, having its beginnings in the late 1600's. St. Luke's Episcopal Church, dating back to 1732, overlooks the center of town from a hilltop, giving way to the naming of the town as Church Hill.

The architectural styles range from Colonial to Victorian, and early 20th Century.

Today, the town is known for the Church Hill Theatre, a renovated art deco styled movie house from the thirties, which is home of the Church Hill Players. Here, residents from around the area come to see plays and musicals, and a bit of Shakespeare.

There are long country roads that traverse the farmland that stretch out beyond the town limits, creating a bucolic scene. There has been ongoing residential development taking hold in the area, to meet the needs of people arriving from outside the area. The peaceful lifestyle, and close proximity to Annapolis, Baltimore and Washington provide plenty of reason for new homes to be built here.

At the edge of town, along Main Street, there is a simple white wooden house on the hillside. It's the home of Ethel's Sub Shop, where you can get the best "sub to go" if you’re in the mood for a quick lunch.

Church Hill has a beautifully maintained public park, with athletic fields, playground, and pavilion. It's a great spot to watch a sunset and have a picnic.

All in all, Church Hill has arrived in the 21st Century answering the needs of the community by allowing select residential development, yet still retaining the agricultural, small town atmosphere that is sought after.
